Published to coincide with the first comprehensive exhibition devoted to the pioneer American abstract artist, this volume traces Reinhardt's work from the late 1930s through the 1960s, with 94 paintings, gouaches, and collages documenting the development from the geometric abstractions of the American Abstract Artist group of the 30s, to his "all-over" abstract paintings of the 40s, to the monochromatic red, blue, and finally "black" paintings of the 50s and 60s.
