The Gothic is the first anthology to survey the pervasive role in of "the Gothic" in current art and visual culture. Today's Gothic takes its cue not only from its historic themes - the supernatural, transgression, patriarchy and the female heroine - but equally form contemporary cultural sources as diverse as horror film theory, Lacanian psychoanalysis and Goth subcultures.
